Policy & Advocacy

An outcome area of NADA’s Strategic Plan 2009 – 2011 is providing leadership and advocacy on drug and alcohol policy and service system development. To support NADA to achieve this, a Strategic Policy and Advocacy Framework for 2009-2011 has been developed.

NADA aims to fulfil its policy and advocacy role by:
– Encouraging member feedback and participation in its policy and advocacy work and provide advice and support to members on policy and advocacy-related issues.
– Liaising with government, politicians and other policy makers directly and through committee and advisory group representation and written submissions.
– Collaborating strategically with other organisations within the drug and alcohol sector and broader human services sector through joint submissions and advocacy papers or participation in relevant policy forums.
– Engaging with the media to promote the work and views of the non government drug and alcohol sector in NSW.

NADA’s primary policy priorities as outlined in the Policy and Advocacy Strategic Framework are:

1. Sustainability and development of the non government drug and alcohol service system

2. Consumer/service user participation

3. Health Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention - A NADA Health Promotion Subcommittee exists which deals with health promotion related policy issues. For more information on their activities, click here.

Additional policy areas are identified in the NADA Strategic Policy and Advocacy Framework 2009-2011.
