Sector Development Program

 

NADA’s Sector Development program focuses on supporting members to develop their organisational capacity. We do this through advocacy and representation, specific projects and supporting networks and partnerships.

 

 Our current focus is on:

- Quality Improvement Programs
- Management and governance
- Grant funding and administration
- Information and communication

Quality Improvement Programs
We support members engaged in formal quality improvement (QI) programs with either the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) or Quality Management Services (QMS).

 

Activities include:

Development of Resource Tool for Non Government Drug and Alcohol Organisations

This Resource Tool has been developed in partnership with ACHS to support non government drug and alcohol agencies to apply the EQuIP4 Standards and to address important areas that are relevant to the speciality of drug and alcohol service provision. This tool is intended to support NADA members undertaking a formal quality improvement program with ACHS.

Development of Policy Tool Kit

We are developing a set of policy and procedure templates that can be adapted for use at a local/organisational level. These templates link in with the above quality improvement resource tool (though can be used by any organisation) and will be freely available to NADA members mid 2010.

Quality Improvement Forums
NADA convenes a number of member forums/networking events per year aimed at improving knowledge and practice of formal quality improvement programs. Past events have included general information sessions about current QI providers.

 

The last QI Forum was held on Wednesday 21 October 2009 with a focus on both the QI Self Assessment process and organisational outcomes planning (linked with NADA’s Information Management Project). Collaboration with QI providers
NADA collaborates with both the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and Quality Management Services (QMS) to support members on their quality improvement journey. This includes sharing of information and increasing knowledge across the sectors.

 

NADA has a Memorandum of Understanding with ACHS and QMS that guide how our organisations will work together to best support NADA members. NADA members receive a 10% discount on standard ACHS member fees.


Quality Improvement Support Grants
NADA has been funded by NSW Health to provide quality improvement support grants to NADA members since 2003/04. The purpose of these grants has been to support organisations to undertake formal quality improvement programs. Specifically, grants have assisted organisations to cover QI program providers' fees, associated training, administration costs and infrastructure/equipment required to meet accreditation.
 
A new round of support grants is now open.


Applications for grants close 16th July 2010.

Management and governance
We support members in their strengthening and sustaining of good practice in management and governance. NADA can provide advice and assistance on business systems, strategic planning and implementation, and governance structures. Along with NADA’s Information Management Project, we are also supporting members to better identify, measure and report on client and service outcomes.

NADA and Management Support Online have negotiated a 15% discount for NADA members. 

MSO is a integrated web based service for managers, staff and board/committee members of AOD agencies, supporting and resourcing good management, governance, operations and administration – templates, tools and resources to download, animated training programs, good practice guides, links to sites and contacts and a confidential advice service for organisational problem solving.

Grant funding and administration

NADA develops and contributes to policy and submissions in the area of drug and alcohol and the wider health and community services system. We specifically advocate for the non government drug and alcohol sector in areas of funding, compliance, building of evidence-based practice and research.

 - NCOSS Health Policy Advisory Group and Sector Development Forum

 - NSW Health Drug and Alcohol Council and subcommittees, Information Management Committees (various)

 - Alcohol and Drug Council of Australia (ADCA) Board and State Peaks representation

 

Submissions and media presence
NADA staff, Board and the Policy and Advocacy Subcommitte make submissions and respond to various enquiries and reports on matters that are particularly pertinent to the funding, governance and management of the non government sector. We may do this as a single organisation, or we may contribute to other submissions with other organisations, such as NCOSS or ADCA.
