The NSW Drug and Alcohol Workforce Development Council, a State Government Ministerial Council, has produced a set of three recruitment pamphlets encouraging university students, professionals and mature aged people to join the drug and alcohol workforce.
Since October 2007, the pamphlets have been distributed via:
· sending the pamphlets to NSW universities and TAFE campuses
· sending the pamphlets to professional bodies for distribution to members
· inserting the pamphlets in 5000 copies of the Of Substance magazine
· raising awareness of the pamphlets at a meeting of ethnic minority community representatives
· providing copies of the pamphlets to participants at the NADA conference and to Community Drug Action teams.
The pamphlets include the following key messages:
Join the workforce that helps people to overcome the misuse of drugs and alcohol ….
- Working to help people with drug and alcohol problems makes a positive difference to your community.
- This workforce has career and learning opportunities for a wide range of people including professionals who would like a career change and mature aged or retired people who think they can help.
- Jobs include frontline work helping people who have misused drugs and alcohol, through to community education, and research.
- You can build on your work and life experiences and gain new skills and knowledge when you move into this dynamic area of the workforce.
- You can learn and get qualified on the job
- You can work full or part-time, job share or work flexible hours.
- This workforce contributes to making families healthier and safer.
- These pamphlets have plenty of information about where to go, who to see, what to do and what to read about finding a job in this important and caring workforce sector.
