About the service

As part of a partnership with lead agency Grand Pacific Health, Odyssey House NSW is supporting the establishment of a new Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) in Campbelltown. MMHCs are designed to provide a safe and welcoming entry point for people experiencing distress/crisis, and/or with moderate to severe mental health needs. Odyssey House NSW will be providing specialised Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) and Mental Health (MH) treatment and support services to clients of the MMHC as part of this hub.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new service and function as part of a multidisciplinary team addressing a broad range of social, physical, and emotional needs. 

The Campbelltown MMHC is in a new purpose-built site, close to Campbelltown train station.

Job Description

The AOD and Mental Health Worker – MMHC (Medicare Mental Health Centre) is a staff member of Odyssey Programs and works within a MMHC as part of that team. The AOD and MH Worker provides specialised AOD and MH treatment and support services to clients of the MMHC’s. This will include counselling, case management, group facilitation, and other psychosocial supports.  

  • Work in collaboration with clients to plan and implement individual goals for treatment and support.
  • Conduct and facilitate client care planning assessment processes to assist in the development of individual client treatment plans.
  • Provide individual AOD and MH recovery one-to-one treatment, care planning, care coordination and case management in line with the Odyssey Model of Care and the MMHC requirements, including working with external services and providers where required to further client case management goals.

Requirement


Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Significant experience supporting persons with alcohol and other drugs support needs.
  • Significant experience supporting persons with mental health support needs and/or co-existing support needs.
  • Experience in provision of one-to-one support for people with AOD and Mental Health support needs.
  • Experience in group facilitation and group program delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience working in team environment to deliver coordinated support.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking brief and comprehensive assessment as well as ongoing assessment of client support needs.
  • Experience working within a non-government AOD treatment program.


In addition, you will bring:

  • Computer literacy including understanding of MS Office Suite and use of Client Management Systems (CMS’s)
  • Demonstrable communication skills including report writing, case note writing.
  • Understanding of the principles of the Privacy Act and its practical implementation in service delivery.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment, harm minimisation, care coordination and support strategies.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implement the principles of WHS, EEO and continuous Quality Improvement.
  • The ability to regulate emotions, remain calm and be emotionally resilient while interacting and supporting clients with high levels of emotion and at time emotionally disturbing conversations.
  • Hold a current NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Hold or have the ability to obtain a current Criminal History Check and Working With Children clearance for paid employment.
